Since becoming manager at this property my own gardening has become very challenging as it is on a steep hill. The last few years have seen long dry summers and extremely wet cold winters. I love the way I can control the extremes using Mr Stacky. He has been moved around quite a bit to try and find the ideal place to get the most sunlight (there are lots of big trees here). So far I’ve had great success with both herbs and vegetables. Mainly, different lettuce types, spinach, khol rabi, rocket, coriander, basil etc. I haven’t had any success with beetroot yet although I’ve tried a couple of times. I usually collect seeds from spent plants to reseed Mr Stacky in the next growing season. I’m keen to get another garden going where I could surround Mr Stacky with a trellis and try different bean varieties, zucchini or even pumpkins!
