Stacking Planter FAQ's
Grow anything from herbs, lettuce, strawberries & greens to full blown fruiting crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini even tubers such as potatoes, carrots and beet root!
Here’s some inspiration 🙂 :
Beet Root | Lettuce | Spinach | Kale | Capsicum | Tomato
Cucumber | Celery | Beans | Herbs | Strawberries | Carrot
Swiss Chard | Pumpkin | Bok Choi | Chillies | Snow Peas |
Zucchini | Broccoli | Shallots
You get the picture right! 🙂 You can pretty much grow anything. Just ensure you’re providing enough sun…
Yes certainly. The stacking planters in the 5 tier sets are exactly the same as the hydroponic kits. So you can buy a small 5 tier set and see how it works, then once you’re happy scale up to a larger set-up if desired…
Yes. Food Safe Polypropylene #5. Like what yogurt containers are made of except we use a lot more of it.
This all depends on what you want to grow. The 33cm width pots have a capacity of 5 litres each which is suitable for lettuces, herbs, spinach, beetroot, flowers and plants with smaller root systems. The 45cm width pots have a large 15 litres capacity each. This is ample space to grow all kinds of fruiting vegetables such as tomatoes, capsicum, eggplant and even pumpkin or watermelon if you really want!
Yes, and many customers do. Make sure you use good quality well draining potting mix. Great news is Mr Stacky is modular, so you can start small and build a self sustainable garden over time.
While the poles are not 100% necessary, Mr Stacky planter sets come with a center pole which adds stability and allows you to move the garden from above as the pole extends above the planter. Other stacking planters do not provide this. This also allows you to convert your 5 tier kit into a hydroponic tower kit if you want.
Simply water the top pot! Each stacky has drainage holes in the center and outer clovers which disperse water optimally to touch all the root systems on the way down. This flow through design ensures pooling of water or root rot.
When you see the bottom dripping, this means the above layers are saturated so you want to stop watering before you see drips from the bottom. As a rule of thumb it’s much better to provide regular small doses of water opposed to less regular longer feeds.
For example, the DIY systems normally feed 3 times a day for example 9am, 1pm, 5pm at 1 minute intervals.
As long as you have a support through the middle, you can stack them as high as you want!.
Some stackable planters on the market use inserts inside each planter designed to hold water in each layer. This is not good practice! Pooling water promotes disease such as root rot. Mr Stacky planters are FREE FLOWING. Free flowing water is essential for transfer of nutrient and oxygen to the root zone and we do not recommend inserts.
Yes. See these DIY Towers or the 3 Tower Smart Farms for a simple guide. Anyone can do this.

I can’t recommend these highly enough. I have chickens who just love the veggies, so I have my Mr Stacky’s safely out of their roaming.
I would only mention to make sure to keep evenly weight plants on opposite sides in each layer as I had a couple incidents with strong wind.
I very much like the ease of moving the product around for both watering and picking the berries. Feeding the strawberries once a week with an organic liquid fertilizer seems to have helped a great deal.
I am hopeful in the future to have more gardens where I can try growing vegetables and herbs. Overall I am delighted with it.
I’ve been experimenting with Mr Stacky, a Vegepod & grow bags. Definitely getting faster & better results with Mr Stacky. I’ve already harvested some of it twice & it grows back in a week. Best results I’ve had with herbs too. My dill is out of control. Just love it!
I’ve grown arugula, baby spinach, lettuce, various herbs, bok choy & broccoli this time around.
Delivery took about two weeks.
I should mention however that Mr Stacky was quick to send a replacement clover/planter when I emailed him photos regarding an issue with one of the planters.
The pictures were taken three weeks apart.
Easy set-up, everything's included ( except seeds). Already brought 2 will be buying more.
Easy set-up, everything comes with it ( except seeds) . Brought 2 already definitely going to buy more.
Kind Regards

Instructions were easy to follow and full of the coir it moves around very easily on the wheel base.
I am loving watching the seedlings grow. I’ve planted strawberries, herbs and flowers. A real mix to try it out. I even added an onion bulb and it’s doing amazing!
Very happy and can’t wait to add more to our garden.
Everything is at a good height to work on.
No back breaking digging.
Cheers.
I interplay them with mixed sealed seeds. That way, something is growing all year round.
My experience over the last 4 months with the 5 Tiered system has been great. Every seed I have tried planting so far has grown fast and hearty. I have even managed to grow lavender up here in the heat of North Queensland without any issues, after being told by many who have tried before that it's not an easy feat.
I generally use half of the system as a seed germinator to guarantee an expedient, high germination rate, and then plant the healthy juveniles of larger plants, in my raised beds where they have more space to grow. The system usually lived on my patio which receives a good 6-8 hours of sun in Summer and 5-6 in Winter. I would recommend to future users to get some additional coco coir bricks so you are ready to refurbish the 'petals' after transplanting any plants that have outgrown the system.
10/10 would recommend.
Really looking forward to adding some colour to the tops pots come spring. I love the white and am looking forward to the colourful flowers cascading down against the white pots.
A tip- we drove a reo rod through the middle hole and into the ground. We have had huge winds and they cannot blow over. It also allows us to spin them, so each side gets sun.
I know have 4 Mr Stacky towers. I will be getting more.
I highly recommend them. I am using them on my pathways as well as on my veranda. I have one filled with nothing but lettuces. I have two that are a mixture of carrots and tomatoes shallot’s and spring onions.
The last one has a third round of lettuce we love our lettuce, a few chillies and I’m about to plant some flowers to keep it pretty throughout winter.
Tower 1 was planted a mixture of Lettuces, Pak Choi, Broccoletti, Arumathus, Perpetual Spinach and Button Squash in the top layer.
Tower 2 was planted with Broccoli, Beetroot, Capsicum, Pak Choi, Sugar Loaf Cabbage, Chinese Cabbage and Cauliflower in the top layer.
We have been picking Lettuce, Spinach, Beet, Arumathus and Pak Choi leaves for weeks. Our Button Squash are developing fruit and we hope to pick the first ones in the next week!!
The Capsicums haven't done so well, but we think that has been due to the excessive rain we have had over the last month and also that they were transplanted from another pot whereas everything else was planted from seed.
We are now incorporating Coconut Coir with the soil in our other pots and have found it is fantastic with Cherry Tomatoes and Celery and are having success with growing cuttings of native Pigface!
We are definately getting another Tower soon!
PS They're also good for keeping snails and slugs off your veggies.
It was exciting to set it up. It working & going good. I planted few microgreens & started usin greens already in salads.
We are moving house to a smaller yard. These planters are not only space saver they are smart gardening.
Once I settle I will go for the few more stackers to add to my garden.
With the little space I have in the backyard I can plant big trees on the soil & use stacked planters for veggies.
Thanks
Aruna
Great product & I could not be happier with my decision to upgrade my system to the full solar powered Hydroponic system. It takes care of itself & my current planting of Vegetables love it. After only 3 weeks I'm harvesting Cos Lettuce & Basil from the original seedling's planted from BigW and there's nothing better than the taste straight from your own garden stacker. Cant wait for my parsley & chilies to mature.
I do plan to buy another 1 or 2 as we are small on space and want to grow my own vege, so far so good, what a great idea, this is really the way to grow and go.
We found your company on line, purchased and planted. Success.
Thank you for your prompt service and excellent product.

I was surprised how vigorously everything grew. I am now giving produce away to my neighbours (especially beans!) as it is producing more than I can use!
Thankyou Mr Stacky for a great product!
The first pic is my Stacky after 6 months, the second is when I started the plants, third is a delicious salad I made from all the leaves and herbs in my MR Stacky. I love it.
in a small space. Have had great success with spinach, lettuce, rocket and
strawberries. Defiantly recommend!
She sent her pictures to us saying “ the bottom row of our mr stacky became a
snacky for one little man Boo”. Living inner city means minimal garden so Mr
Stacky is brilliant. So Mr Stacky is also Mr Snacky for both our daughter and
her bunny Boo.
Easy to assemble and looks great when plants are added.
Especially like having it on wheels as we can move it around for watering, sun, etc.
My wife always wanted a herb garden, hard when living in a unit, now she has one. Next comes the Stacie for flowers.
Thanks for a great product!!
In my eagerness I didn’t read all of the instructions which contain some helpful planting ideas, ( plant the same plant beneath each other, etc) definitely worth reading fully.
Product itself is surprisingly deep, took most of two bags of local organic planter mix (30-40lt bags) and the benefit of wheels is great.
Mr Stacky grows the salad for my daughters lunchboxes easily. Very happy with it.
Very pleased with the system so far. It drains well and fits into the available space. If it works out will certainly ordering more.
Cheers Craig Anderson
Would buy again.Arrived quickly too .
Growing 2 varieties of beans.
Just about ready to pick !
I have 2 x 5 tier stacky have planted both with strawberries.
Amazing neat and tidy and easy to pick.
Thanks Ruth

I haven’t experienced such good service for some time, keep up the good work.
Kind regards,

I highly recommend planting one layer at a time and thoroughly watering each layer prior to assembling the tower (versus filling with soil and then planting).
Purchased this for my daughter who grows everything. She needs something for small spaces. This is great planter that can fit in a smaller space (apartments, small patio). You can use as many tiers as you want. I like the fact that it is plastic, so it is light weight. I know she is going to love it. Herbs for everyone!
Strawberries are growing well. You have to remember to water them a lot. The bottom layer tends to get much wetter feet than the top layer so there will be some variability in the wetness or the soil. On the positive side, the strawberries hang out over the sides of each layer so they are less likely to get ground rot,
Arrived in good condition with all parts and exactly as shown and described.
so I am giving it 4 stars based on that.
HOWEVER, there are a few design issues that are not their fault, and I've decided not to dock them for this, as it may not be an issue for your needs, please read on.
If you have this in direct sunlight like mine is, we have to water it A LOT.
Also, I noticed that the top tier only seems to drip down every other tier, so you have to drip from the second tier too, if you want the waterfall effect while watering.
I may change my system over to a wick style for watering by setting it on a underground bucket and having the pole have holes with strings or something that can pull up the water from the bucket. It's just way too dry.
So far I had it for more than two months and still looks like new, not bad for the price.
I bought this for my strawberry plants and I love it! It is incredibly convenient and I placed it right on my front porch and the plants grow very well in it. One does need to keep the plants well watered, as the dirt dries out quite quickly, so I water it almost every day. This is a great product and I would highly recommend it to others!
I received my planter a while ago but were waiting for my Strawberry seeds from Japan. Never received them so I bought 25 bare root strawberries. Received 26. Over a dozen actually had leaves on the bare root. Anyway, planted the 20. Looks fabulous. Planted the other 6 in a pot. Might buy another one of these for other berries. Love it.
It was more than I expected. It held 25 strawberry plants. It was fun to set up and the grand daughters love to water it and watch the plants grow. So fun and a learning experience...with the prize of fruit. No down side.
to grow plants and do not have any to use single pots. I am very satisfied with this purchase and will in the future by more to expand.
It's ok. More plastic looking in reality than I expected. Does work well and once the plants drape down should look nice.
I must be doing something wrong as it got such good reviews. My strawberry plants have done nothing except getting reddish brown leaves. I have another one in a hanging basket that was doing much better so I fear it will suffer the same fate. I figured I'd have to experiment
Tower stands well and allows plants enough room. It however does tend to flood the bottom tier. My bottom tier is all dead.
